With every act of kindness a new flower blooms.

No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.

When other people make mistakes, we seek justice. When we make mistakes, we seek compassion. The lesson is to give to others what you seek.

The act of compassion begins with full attention, just as rapport does. You have to really see the person. If you see the person, then naturally, empathy arises. If you tune into the other person, you feel with them. If empathy arises, and if that person is in dire need, then empathic concern can come. You want to help them, and then that begins a compassionate act. So I'd say that compassion begins with attention.

While on an exciting adventure, spring break, or trip to New Mexico, whatever you wish to call it, I was reminded of how much I truly care about my daily routine and my independence, but most of all, I was reminded how much I greatly appreciate the strong relationships I share with few people.

My parents of course were at the top of my appreciative list, for they are always the first people to offer me compassion when I make mistakes, even if I do not intend to seek it. I always have their full attention and I make a great effort to offer the same rapport in return, and I believe, aside from all the memories and love we share, this is why our relationship is so strong.

The relationship I share with my parents is a relationship I evaluate and base other relationships on. It is based on trust, honesty, and other strong moral and ethical values that I appreciate to a great extent.

With the appreciation and realization of the fact that I greatly value the strong relationships I share with few people came a time for reconciliation. It became evident to me that many of the relationships I value so much cannot be compared to that of my parents and I’s. I believe that few relationships will ever reach that level, but they still deserve a greater deal of compassion and attention. I plan to begin a compassionate act by assisting in building stronger relationships with friends and family.

My message of the week is to simplify your situation. Look around and show yourself and others the attention of compassion. If you see the person, then naturally, empathy arises. If you tune into the other person, you feel with them

Remember, the act of compassion begins with full attention, just as rapport does.

To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness...

Like courage or optimism, hope is something that is most useful when it is the hardest to assemble - at our darkest moments. It’s easy for us to be hopeful when things are going well. We are often awash in hope then, but we don't really need it. This could possibly be why real hope isn't easy. Hope can be scary, it can be fleeting, it can be challenging; which also makes hope so valuable.

My message of the week, have hope!

In some cases, hope is a skill that can improve with practice. One tip: practice taking the long view. In a time when we find ourselves filling out monthly statements, the FASFA, or taking our last midterms of the school year, it is easy to get caught up in measuring success by the day, or the week, or the semester. Our problems may be serious, they may not improve this year, but if we take the long view, however, we can more easily find hope that change will come.

Ideas of masquerading around as someone we’re not, running on dreams that are meant to be, and taking the high road on the immaculate journey, all have one thing in common; what we’re all thinking about right now.

Whatever you have to think about or do today, it can all be improved if you are able to access your best thoughts. So take a deep breath, let yourself be fully present, and remember to nurture your mind with great thoughts because you will never go any higher than you think. Changing your thinking can indeed change your world. Take a moment and find your best self who is ready to help you have an incredible week. Think your best thoughts, and enjoy your crazy life.

I encourage you to share what your personal thinking change presented you with.
